"THE LITTLE FIR TREE"
by Raisa Kudasheva,
translated by V. Ingwall Baranovsky

There was a fir tree in the woods,
As pretty as you've seen;
In all the seasons of the year
She stayed vivacious green.

In all the seasons of the year
She stayed vivacious green.

And if a blizzard in the night
Would happen to pass by,
It'd tuck her in with fluffy snow
And sing a lullaby.

It'd tuck her in with fluffy snow
And sing a lullaby.

The little bunnies hopped and hopped
Around the little fir,
And sometimes came the grumpy wolf
With silky white-grey fur.

And sometimes came the grumpy wolf
With silky white-grey fur.

There was a sound of jingling bells,
And, singing all the way,
There came along a jolly man
In a one-horse open sleigh.

There came along a jolly man
In a one-horse open sleigh.

He said "You're just the tree I need",
And then he cut her down,
And then he put her in his sleigh
And brought her back to town.

And then he put her in his sleigh
And brought her back to town.

And now she stands in a shiny hall,
As pretty as a toy;
She came to us on Christmas Eve,
And brought us lots of joy.

She came to us on Christmas Eve,
And brought us lots of joy.
