A pity he didn't get over with the WoT - from the later books ("A Crown of Swords" and the following) I've got the impression that he has grown really tired of it. It's not a mere coincidence that he has started mentioning another cycle he'd like to write (The Infinity of Heaven) sometimes about late nineties.

It is true that "Crown of Swords" and "Path of Daggers" (as well as a good deal of "Winter's Heart" are terribly boring. However, starting from the finale of "Winter's Heart" the series really started to pick up again, with "Knife of Dreams" quite on a level with, say, "Fires of Heaven". I am looking forward to "A Memory of Light" since it seems the whole story has been told to RJ's wife and cousin, and exists in audio.

Так вот, по-моему, дело в том, что Джордан не вполне состоялся как писатель (скажем, он - насколько я понимаю нюансы английского - так и оставался довольно посредственным стилистом) из-за давления, условно говоря, рынка. И читатели (="потребители"), и, вероятно, менеджмент в Tor Books требовали от него "того же, побольше и побыстрее". Отсюда а)избыточность в построении сюжета, особенно заметная как раз в поздних книгах, когда появление новых сюжетных линий как будто выходит из-под контроля, б)невозможность "прошерстить" готовый к отправке текст на предмет отсечения лишнего и в)адский темп работы (если верить интервью), который, не исключаю, приблизил кончину РДж.
Это же самое давление заставило Джордана потратить силы и время на издание расширенной версии "Новой весны" (единственный текст "Колеса Времени", который я не смог одолеть до конца ни по-английски, ни по-русски).
"Память Света", тем не менее, я тоже жду. Тем более что Гарриет Мак-Дугал была первым критиком, редактором и фактическим соавтором РДж.
